An ice cream parlour is selling ketchup, mushy peas and Marmite ice cream

A seaside ice cream parlour has launched a range of new controversial flavours which they hope will be the ‘taste of the summer’ – including ketchup and mushy peas.

Ice cream maker Nejmi Hassan admits that his unusual flavours (include Marmite)are an ‘acquired taste’, but he thinks they’ll be a big hit.

We’re not so sure.

The flavours are being sold at his parlour Makcari’s, in Herne Bay, Kent.

All of the ice cream is made by hand, and for the ketchup flavour, Nejmi adds Heinz Tomato Ketchup to his red sauce flavoured blend, and serves it up with a sachet of ketchup for customers to pour on top like strawberry sauce.

The Marmite flavour is served topped with toast, while the mushy peas ice cream comes with a green swirl throughout.

Nejmi has even set a challenge for repeat customers – if they can come up with a flavour, he will make it.

He said: ‘They’re an acquired taste.

‘We hope to introduce a new flavour every month.

‘We had them for sale over the weekend just gone, but we gave most of it away.

‘I’m not saying because they tasted nice, but people were intrigued by ketchup and mushy pea-flavoured ice cream.’
